Did you hear? The opening dates for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have been announced! In just a few months, we’ll all be able to travel to the outpost planet of Batuu, and it’s anticipated to be the biggest open in DECADES at a Disney park.
The opening date at Disneyland is May 31st, 2019 and the opening date for Walt Disney World is August 29th, 2019. These dates are earlier than originally anticipated!
That gives us just a little over two months to prepare for the first opening! Here is all the information you need to know about Galaxy’s Edge, and what to expect when it comes to the crowds.

Disneyland
Galaxy’s Edge will be opening first in Disneyland Park in California. Galaxy’s Edge will be located at the rear of the park, between Frontierland and Fantasyland. When we went to visit in February, we could see very clearly the pathway leading to the entrance but not much else!
As of right now, due to the massive crowds they’re expecting, Disney is requiring reservations to enter Galaxy’s Edge. Reservations are currently going to be the only ones allowed in this area of the park until June 24th. For annual passholders, expect blackout dates around this time due to the crowds.
If you are staying at a Disneyland resort during this time, you will be automatically given a reservation for a designated time during their stay. For guests who are just visiting or staying off site, reservations will be open soon, be sure to check the Disney site for details as we get closer to the opening date!
Opening on May 31st will be the much anticipated Millenium Falcon attraction! For the first time guests will be able to get behind the wheel of the famous spaceship and embark on a smuggling run of their own. Also opening will be multiple shopping and dining experiences. You’ll have an opportunity to build your own lightsaber, as well as your own droid! Ever wanted to have a glass of that famous blue milk? You’ll find it here!
While there is no opening date just yet, you can bet that sometime later in 2019 the Rise of the Resistance ride will be opening as well. This ride will allow you to take on the First Order and Kylo Ren himself!
Hollywood Studios
The biggest difference between the Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World is the location and size. Unfortunately Disneyland does not have the space Walt Disney World has to build. Because Hollywood Studios has much more space, there is not going to be any reservation required to visit Galaxy’s Edge when it opens in August!
Aside from that, all the same attractions and shops will be available in the Florida counterpart. I can’t wait to go in October, and I assure you I’ll post a full review once I get there!
Need more info? Be sure to check out the official Disney site for Galaxy’s Edge information. Additionally, I always recommend The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, which has the most up to date info on Disney parks. They come out with a new version every year, and the new 2019 version has information on Galaxy’s Edge, as well as all other changes coming to the parks this year. They have a Disneyland version as well!
What are you looking forward to MOST at Galaxy’s Edge? I’m personally super excited to build my own lightsaber! Let me know in the comments below! I’ll see you all on Batuu!
