Hello from 2019! I hope everyone had an amazing New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. I personally love New Years. The feeling of having a new, clean slate to start things off on the right foot – it’s one of my favorite things! Yes, I know that realistically, the change in the year really has no affect on your life overall. Still, I take pride in the fact that I’m one of those people who does New Years Resolutions religiously – and actually follows through with them most of the time!
I’m sure you’re probably thinking “Yeah right! Everyone says they’re going to stick to their New Years Resolutions!” And you’d be right to be skeptical! However, I’m proud to say I’ve been successful in the past. Hopefully I’ll be just as successful this year!
My Resolutions
Many of my resolutions revolve around my blog! Here are some resolutions I’m hoping to keep this year:
- Post at least 2 times a week (work allowing) This is something I’ve been working towards consistently since last year. This year I want to be better organized in my posting. Sometimes I had nothing planned out, which made actually WRITING twice a week very difficult!
- BUDGET for my blog. I have a couple of expenses that I run on my blog – Tailwind for my Pinterest scheduling, ConvertKit for my email list, and a few more. I was really bad about actually tracking what I made vs. what I spent. This year I plan to change that!
- Finish Elite Blogging Academy Modules 2 + 3. One of the best things I did LAST year was enroll in blogging courses. Elite Blogging Academy, despite having a pretty hefty price tag, has helped me take my blog to the next level. It also takes a VERY long time – because it’s packed with SO much info! My goal is to get the next 2 modules done this year. Since it took me over 4 months to do the first one, I’m thinking this is the perfect goal! I also completed Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing which helped me immensely with my affiliate marketing!

I also have the usual resolutions – get fit (I lost 25 pounds last year and intend to keep going!) donate monthly to charity, and do more crafting!
Here are a few tips I have to make sure YOU are successful in your resolutions. I personally use these tips to be successful in my own endeavors – and you can do it too!
Invest in a Planner
The best thing you can do for yourself is PLAN. I am absolutely obsessed with my planner, and writing down what I plan to do each day helps a ton. I color code it as well! My blog related to do items are in dark magenta, my general to do items are in pink, and my work schedule is in green. Spruce it up with stickers and washi tape and you’ll ENJOY sitting down and getting out your planner every day! I always plan out my week on Sunday evenings (my planner starts each week on Monday).
Not sure where to start with planners? I highly recommend The Happy Planner as well as their accessories to get yourself ultra organized. Don’t forget the color coded pens! I love the Papermate felt tipped markers – they’re thicker than pens and have a brighter color!
It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint!
I learned the hard way that booking yourself full with to do items each and every day can make you feel like you’ll never finish your tasks. Not only that, but if you DON’T have enough time to get all your stuff done, you’ll end up feeling overwhelmed and disappointed in yourself.
You have to remember that all your goals will only be accomplished with hard work. You have an ENTIRE YEAR to get your goals done! Resolutions are dropped in the first week of January because people get overwhelmed and give up because they’re not seeing results. Since when do people drop 20 pounds in a few days, though? Or start a successful blog in a week? It doesn’t happen! Be patient!
Habits take weeks to become engrained in your brain as well. If you forget a few days, that’s ok too. Don’t give up hope! Just start back up!
Phone Reminders
This past year, I made a goal to floss more. Silly goal, I know, but I was determined to get it done! I ended up developing it as a habit, and the way I did it was simple! I just put a reminder in my phone! Every night at 8 PM, it reminds me to floss. Just a simple reminder like that has helped me develop a ton of habits! I used it to help remind me to do all sorts of things, from posting Instagram pictures to brushing my dog’s teeth!
If you know you’re going to be on your phone a lot, this is extremely helpful. DON’T let yourself hit complete until it is actually done! This way you’ll keep getting bugged until you get off your butt and do it!
Invest in a Fitbit (Even if Getting Fit Isn’t Your Goal!)
While most people are looking to get fit this year, I recommend a Fitbit or a smart watch (like an Apple Watch) for everyone. Why? Even if you’re not trying to, it’s a good idea to keep track of your steps and calories burned! I don’t know about you guys, but when I see how many steps I took, I feel accomplished! From stay at home mom’s to busy vet techs like myself, you’d be surprised how much you move!
Not only that, if you get a smart watch, your reminders can be synched to it. You have NO excuse to not start those habits!
It’s amazing how small little changes can make a world of difference. The problem most people run in to is that they can’t stick to their goals, or get discouraged when they see no change in a short period of time. The key is to take it slow and make small lifestyle changes to get where you want to go.
Hopefully these tips help inspire you in the New Year! I plan on using them to help me continue to be successful with my Disney blog!
