The Disney Plus Launch is almost here! It’s just a little over two months until the new streaming service launches. While many shows and movies have been announced to be in the works for future releases, there are a handful of things that are going to be available as soon as it launches on November 12th. So what will be available right off the bat? What can we look forward to when it goes live?
Here is a breakdown of all the original content you can expect to find on Disney Plus the day is launches!

The Mandalorian
Probably the most anticipated show dropping on Disney Plus this November is the Star Wars based show The Mandalorian. For those who are huge Star Wars fans, you’ll recognize that Boba Fett is also a Mandalorian, and the titular character in this show wears the recognizable helmet and uniform of the Mandalorian people. The series follows a bounty hunter (clarification – NOT Boba Fett!) as he navigates the galaxy after the fall of the Galactic Empire.
The show stars Pablo Pascal (from Game of Thrones) and is produced by Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan from the MCU and director of many projects, including Iron Man, The Jungle Book and The Lion King). This show by far as the most buzz surrounding it at the moment. As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m definitely ready to stream this ASAP on November 12th! Would it be wrong to take the day off work to start it??
The Lady and the Tramp
As a huge animal lover, I’m absolutely thrilled about the live action remake of The Lady and the Tramp coming to Disney Plus. Unlike The Lion King remake that came out earlier this year, this one was shot using REAL DOGS with a combination of CGI to make it look like they’re talking. Just from the small trailer, I feel there is more emotion in these dogs than the entirety of The Lion King remake. While some parts of this movie were problematic in the past (looking at you, Siamese cats) they’ve updated and edited those parts for the new remake. The voice acting in this movie is superb. Lady is being voiced by Tessa Thompson (aka Valkyrie from The Avengers) and Justin Theroux will be voicing Tramp. It’s a cute and cuddly remake the whole family can enjoy, and will be ready to stream immediately when it launches!
Noelle
It wouldn’t be fall without the release of a new holiday movie! Noelle follows the story of two siblings – who just happen to be the children of Santa Claus. Anna Kendrick plays Noelle, who has to get her brother, played by Bill Hader, to the North Pole to take over Santa duties. Expect it to have the same sort of Christmas fun we’ve come to expect from The Santa Clause franchise, even though they aren’t related. Fans of holiday movies, especially those cheesy Hallmark holiday classics, will likely find this to be an unexpected treat when the streaming site launches. After all, holiday season starts as soon as October ends, right?!
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series
Who knew we needed more HSM in our lives?! A surprising show that people were not expecting was announced at D23. The premise is that the students of East High – the REAL East High, where HSM was filmed – have never put on HSM. Seeing as how that movie came out almost 15 years ago now, the students find this is a travesty. So they’re putting on a show, and the series follows the students as they prepare for the musical!
It might be a little hard to follow, but if you’re a fan of HSM, this is a must see for you. I definitely felt a feeling of nostalgia watching the trailer. I admit that I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time. Fans cannot wait to check this out, and I can’t wait to relive my own high school years!
Encore!
This show hosted by Kristen Bell takes graduated theater kids and gives them the chance to relive their high school days. Actual Broadway stars work with former theater performers and bring them together for another chance to perform. It’s a sweet way to honor the achievements of high school theater programs. It also brings out past dramas and makes for an interesting way to confront your past. If you’re a huge fan of Broadway and theater, you can’t miss this show.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum
Jeff Goldblum is one of those celebrities you cannot help but love. In fact, Disney loves him so much they’ve given him his own show! The premise of this show is basically ‘let’s follow Jeff around and see what happens’. It’s exactly that – life, but with Jeff Goldblum. It sounds silly, and will probably be a little ridiculous. But I’ll definitely be watching every episode there is, because who doesn’t want to watch Jeff Goldblum doing Jeff Goldblum things?!
Forky Asks a Question
Are we all trash? Find out with the new series Forky Asks a Question! The newest character to join Bonnie’s playroom in Toy Story 4, we follow Forky as he learns to navigate the world as a toy. As you can imagine, the toys have their own answers to the questions – and I can imagine they won’t always be spot on in their answers. If you’re a huge fan of Pixar movies, or Toy Story in particular, you’ll definitely enjoy this new series!
Pixar’s Sparkshorts
Pixar is well known for their short films. Ever since their founding their short films have been a staple in the company. Now, they’ve got their own show coming to Disney Plus! Pixar Sparkshorts is going to showcase short films from animators, and they’ve already given us a sneak peek! Check out this adorable short about a ball of yarn dealing with a new job at a startup. Sounds silly, but it’s worth the watch!
Marvel’s Hero Project
This show isn’t about Marvel heroes – it’s about community heroes! This series follows the lives of community heroes with a new documentary each week. The series focuses on kids and teenagers who are striving to make a change in their community, and like the Mandalorian, new episodes will drop weekly.
Additionally, many Disney animated classics, Star Wars films, Marvel, and National Geographic shows, as well as the entire 30 season catalog of The Simpsons will be headed to the platform following the launch. No more having to hunt for DVDs at the thrift store! Simply check out your favorite movie on Disney Plus!
Even though the window for the D23 discount has ended, you can still take advantage of combination pricing by purchasing the Disney Plus combo package. It includes Hulu and ESPN as well, all for $12.99 a month! Be sure to visit the site and sign up for updates on the Disney Plus Launch!
There are MANY more shows and movies in production for Disney Plus – these are just the ones that will be ready to watch when it becomes ready to stream on November 12th. Another fact we learned at D23 – the shows will be rolled out week by week, as opposed to dropping whole seasons at once like Netflix.
